We've all heard the saying young people can do anything they set their minds to.
16 year old, Anton Fedorov, transformed those words into a reality when he successfully reached the top of Mont Blanc on July 24 2026, becoming the youngest Luxembourger ever to do so.
Mont Blanc is the highest mountain in the Alps and in Western Europe, standing at a remarkable 4,805 metres above sea level. Located on the border between France and Italy, the region is known worldwide for its beautiful Alpine scenery, snow-covered peaks and glaciers.
Mont Blanc is regarded as a challenging ascent due to its high altitude, unpredictable weather and technical terrain, making thorough preparation and training extremely necessary.
While most admire Mont Blanc from afar or through a picture on a screen, Anton viewed the mountain as a challenge to be conquered. He set his mind on climbing this mountain when he was only 14.
During Anton's frequent visits to Chamonix with his mother he had always been enthralled by Mont Blanc.
Compelled by its beauty and fuelled with the motivation that not many have, Anton had made up his mind. Soon enough he had began his training.
His journey began with preparation. Anton and his mother, Irina Fedorova, spent their whole year before the hike doing mountain courses and training opportunities.
Anton recalls two months of 4 to 5 intense workouts a week. He benefitted from several leg exercises and hill runs in his local town, showing us all once again, where there's a will there a way.
Anton explained that this routine, that he constructed together with his mother, was not only a strain on the body.
Age might not always come with true limitations, but it does have effects.
At 16 years old, juggling school, exams, training and personal life leaves little room to breath. Many of the most intense parts of Anton's training occurs in unison with major exams for his schooling.
Anton remarked on his commitment to the final goal and the challenges on his discipline as he was forced to put personal events on pause in order to achieve what he wanted.
All this hard work fortunately did pay off, when the day arrived Anton was ready.
Accompanied by his mother and their mountain guide, Vladimir Blousov, their Mont Blanc climb began at 4.30 in the morning.
When most of us stayed comfortably in our rest, Anton set out to do what many spend their whole lives preparing for. Anton and his companions spend total of 9 hours and 30 minutes climbing.
This early milestone is not only a personal victory, its an incredible achievement. Years of experience are almost expected in hikes like Mont Blanc, achieving it at such a young age is much more extraordinary then many would assume.
Anton remembered that most hikers around him where adults, spanning from their 20s to their 50s. He described the unique experience of being constantly questioned on his age and ability due to being the youngest in the group.
Anton articulated one specific challenge referred to as 'The Summit Push', which occurs during the final 150 vertical metres of the climb.
Described as a immense test of mental determination, requiring them to push through several false summit ridges before finally reaching the true top of the mountain.
He explained the the entire second day of hiking as an extreme difficulty, full of false hope. When asked what helped him get through it Anton proudly refers to his mother. His key motivation and biggest supporter who he strives to make proud.
Anton is Luxembourg's youngest citizen to successfully ascend Mont Blanc. This is not only a title, its an inspiration for climber and non-climbers alike. Anton has proven to us all that determination will always push us beyond limits others expect of us.
