Two prisoners found guilty of an altercation with prison guards were successful in appealing their sentences in the second-instance court.

The Court of Appeals offered more lenient sentences in reducing the prison sentences from respective twelve- and six-month terms to nine and three months in prison.

The court also dropped the first sentence's €1,000 fines, although the charge of damages in the realm of €2,500, offered to one of the injured guards, was upheld in the ruling.

The trial surrounding an altercation in spring 2018 which occurred in the context of tensions surrounding the penal system reform in the penitentiary centre in Schrassig.
