Early on Wednesday morning, a major police operation was launched at the Capellen service area on the A6 motorway. According to initial reports, a man and a woman had been repeatedly stealing items from the service station, and a physical altercation had reportedly broken out between the two of them.
When police arrived at the scene, the pair fled together on a motorcycle that was neither registered nor insured. During their getaway, they briefly drove against the flow of traffic on the motorway.
Officers managed to stop them shortly afterwards for checks. Alcohol and drug tests carried out on the driver both came back positive, and, furthermore, he did not hold a valid driving licence and had no insurance.
He was placed in temporary custody, and the motorcycle was seized on the orders of the public prosecutor's office.
In other news, at around 4.45pm, police received a report of a heavily intoxicated man who was noticed by passers-by near the car park at Place du Théâtre in Luxembourg City. As his condition posed a danger to himself and to others, he too was taken into custody following a medical check.
At around 7pm, a heavily intoxicated man was spotted on the cycle path in Diekirch. Initial reports suggest he nearly fell into the river and was uncooperative with emergency service personnel.
Given his condition, he was also placed in temporary custody after undergoing a medical check.
