"This decision puts an end to a decades-old tradition", according to the association for the protection of the Luxembourg language. Aktioun Lëtzebuergesch now expects the authorities to find a solution to the technical and financial problems. This situation is said to have caused a great deal of concern, following the explanations given by Ministers Bausch and Asselborn in their reply to a parliamentary question by MP Fred Keup from the Alternative Democratic Reform Party (adr).
The association goes even further and asks whether it would not be possible to include the country's three administrative languages (Luxembourgish, French, and German) as well as English on signs within the airport and other public places. The association points out that for instance the airport in the Spanish city of Palma de Mallorca already features four languages (Majorcan, English, German, and Spanish) on its signs.
Aktioun Lëtzebuergesch has offered its services for the potential translation work.
