This week, we turn our attention to the Moselle region in the east of Luxembourg, best known for its rich wine tradition. The area is famous for fragrant vineyards and the local saying that the sky "makes our wine". These vine-covered hills are perfect for scenic hikes, and can also be admired from the decks of Moselle river cruises.

But the Moselle offers more than excellent wines. Schengen is internationally recognised as the birthplace of European unity, while the "Welleschter Kiermes" in Wellenstein is a much-loved local festival. Grevenmacher is home to the renowned butterfly garden, and Wasserbillig boasts the region’s aquarium. As our photos show, the roads and villages along the Moselle have plenty more to discover.

RTL photographer Domingos Oliveira has been travelling the Moselle on assignment, capturing its most striking views and architectural highlights. Each day this week, we will publish a new gallery from a different spot in the region.
