The dialysis service has functioned since 2003 in the Kirchberg hospital. A maximum of 48 patients can be treated there per day, with around 90 patients currently profiting from the service.
Patients must attend 3 times a week, spending 4 hours on the dialysis machine per session.
This week, Hôpitaux Schumann in Kirchberg was named a "nephrology speciality hospital" by the German Society of Nephrology. Nephrology is the study of medicine concerning itself with kidneys. This is the first time a Luxembourg hospital has been awarded this certification.
The specialised kidney disease clinic was introduced in October 2018, with a focus on preventative research, and helping patients prepare for dialysis therapy.
