ITV’s political editor Robert Peston captured the moment and posted it on Twitter, later adding: “You could also see this as human capital embracing financial capital.”

Other users were quick to point out the complete disregard for social distancing, with one questioning: “With all this close contact and a huge number of people involved, is COP26 going to be a vast Covid superspreader event?”

In its Covid regulations, the COP26 website states that physical distance must be kept, vaccination is strongly encouraged (but not mandatory), and all attendees are required to comply with the testing regime and need to self-administer a test each day.

The summit in Scotland brings together world leaders, environmental and policy experts and media. Discussions during the next two-weeks will focus on how best to accelerate action towards reducing carbon emissions, protecting ecosystems and promoting a green transition.
