On Tuesday, the British and Canadian embassies held their annual Diplomat for a Day event, which aims to bring young women together to introduce them to the world of diplomacy as they explore potential career and study paths. Over the course of a day, the participants got to know what it takes to work in international relations, from negotiations to work lunches and ministerial meetings.
The day kicked off with an introduction to modern diplomacy, followed by an interactive crisis simulation led by British Ambassador Joanne Oliver. During the exercise, the young women collaboratively analysed complex scenarios and negotiate solutions under pressure.
The group then joined the Lisa Burke Show at RTL, where they discussed the role of women in international decision-making and in shaping a more inclusive future. Over lunch at the British Residence, the winners met several ambassadors, including the Ambassadors of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, Austria, Spain, the Netherlands, Romania, and the United States.
The programme continued with meetings with diplomats and political representatives in Luxembourg, including a visit to the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and the Chamber of Deputies. The packed schedule concluded with a reception hosted by the Embassy of Canada, where the participants received certificates and reflected on the experience.
