A car and a lorry collided at around 3.45pm, although there were no injuries in the collision. The lorry was easily cleared, but the car required a tow truck, which led to the tunnel closure.
There was a four-kilometre long traffic jam as a result, as only one lane had been re-opened in the hour after the accident occurred. The traffic jam went back from the Grouft tunnel to the Grunewald exit, but has since cleared before 6pm.
