Johnny Chicago became a cult figure in Luxembourgish cinema following his debut in 1988. The mischievous, impulsive, and occasionally clumsy small-time crook always quick with a comeback, was originally brought to life by actor Thierry van Verwecke and has remained a beloved character ever since.

Now, the character is set for a revival in a brand-new series. The new story focuses on a younger Johnny Chicago, portrayed as a relative of the original protagonist.

Samsa Film is currently auditioning for the lead role, looking for a newcomer to become the face of Johnny Chicago's next chapter.

The first round of casting attracted 170 hopefuls, who either submitted video auditions online or took part in spontaneous casting sessions at the annual Schueberfouer.

Of those, 32 candidates have made it through to the next stage.

In the second round, organised by co-directors Roxanne Peguet and Govinda van Maele, candidates were asked to reenact a scene in which Johnny Chicago holds up his favourite local bar.

The upcoming "Troublemaker" series is set to comprise six episodes, with filming scheduled to begin in spring 2027. The release is planned for 2028 to coincide with the film's 40th anniversary.

The whole project will be closely followed and reported on by RTL.
