The group's turnover rose from €883 million in 2017 to around €893 million. CFL has not only seen financial increases, but has also reached a record number of 23.3 million passengers in 2018. The number of passengers rose by 400,000 compared to the previous year despite long weeks of industrial action on French rail lines.
Director general Marc Wengler attributed the passenger increase to the use of the Pfaffenthal-Kirchberg funicular train and the new station in Howald, which has made commuting more convenient for residents hoping to avoid using their cars.
Wengler confirmed that the group would continue to invest in its infrastructure rather than pay out dividends towards shareholders.
