Since Claude Haagen will take over the ministerial posts of Romain Schneider as of January 2022, the municipality of Diekirch was in need of a new mayor.
Member of the local LSAP section convened on Wednesday evening and agreed that second alderman Claude Thill should take over as mayor. Claude Daleiden in return will become new alderman, while Fränk Link will complete the party’s fraction on the town council.

Mayor-elect Thill issued a statement after the meeting, in which he stressed his determination for continuity: “LSAP will continue working as a team and further progress the policies that we have been advancing for the past years. We have our agenda and will continue fulfilling it up until the next elections. For me personally, the amount of time spent will certainly increase, but I have been here long enough to know the ropes and actually look forward to the challenge.”
The politician further underlined that he did not hesitate when offered the position. After all, it is the ultimate position for a local elected official.
