Minister of Energy Claude Turmes said in a parliamentary response that there had briefly been a shortage of 98 fuel at two petrol stations.

Such a shortage was not uncommon and nothing to worry about, he added, as it had not affected the national back up reserves in place. These would only be deployed in the case of an extraordinary and urgent occurrence. If Shell made a corresponding request this time, it would have been rejected, he said.
