However, plans for a bypass have been in motion for the past decade, with no concrete development taking place. Now, it seems as though things are moving forward, with a new project set to begin in spring 2022, which may finally make life easier for the thousands of motorists struggling with the long wait for the barrier to rise on a daily basis.
Had previous projects gone to plan, the barrier issue would have been solved back in 2012. Passed from one administration to the next, the project ran into numerous hurdles, regularly leaving drivers stuck at the barrier for 40 minutes every hour.
The bypass, which is expected to take around two and a half years to complete, to the tune of 20.5 million euros, will eventually run beneath the railway bridge constructed in 2010, linking Dippach station and Reckange-sur-Mess.

If the new project does go ahead, motorists can expect a simpler commute towards the end of 2024. Archaeological and foundation surveys will be carried out in October, followed by a public consultation at the end of the year. Once these steps have been completed, there should be no further obstacles preventing the construction from beginning in spring. The Minister of Transport expressed optimism in the current project.
