On 25 February, a forestry worker made a grisly discovery as they found the remains of a human body near a hiking route.

The public prosecutor's office ordered an autopsy after the worker alerted the authorities to the remains. As the corpse had gone undiscovered for a longer period, coroners had to do additional DNA analyses to identify the body.

After the investigation led the authorities to contact their Dutch counterparts, a DNA match has confirmed that the remains found were those of a 67-year-old Dutch citizen who has been reported missing since 21 February 2015.

Upon inquiry, the public prosecutor's office confirmed that additional tests revealed that there were no traces of an external impact.

The Dutch police has been dealing with the investigation over the last few weeks, as reported by the Dutch press. The deceased had no known link to Luxembourg.
