Despite the lack of authorisations, the illegal dumping ground has been used for years. Reporter.lu reported on Tuesday that steel giant ArcelorMittal used the 150 hectare site between Differdange and Sanem to dispose of dangerous industrial waste. It was announced this Wednesday that there would be political consequences.
Minister for the Environment Carole Dieschbourg will have to answer to MPs of the parliamentary commission in charge. Reporter.lu argued that the case was an environmental scandal and alleged that the unlawful dumping ground had been tolerated by public administrations for years.
Dieschbourg will have to take a stand on the allegations. Democratic Party MP Gusty Graas also added fuel to the fire with a parliamentary question in which he asked about the consequences of this environmental scandal.
