The average number of daily call outs, which is usually set at 140, has increased to 180 in recent weeks.

The 112 emergency line is also currently receiving around 100 calls per day about the coronavirus. Officials thus make an appeal that people first consult the governmental website of the coronavirus for information.

The emergency line should stay free to fulfil its real purpose, which still means treating around 1,100 calls per day.

The statement also elaborates on the safety procedures necessary to transport potential Covid patients, a lengthy process involving firefighters and sanitation teams.

Furthermore, the service staff has also been affected by positive infections and quarantine procedures, meaning that fewer volunteers are at their disposal at the moment.

Officials are working through different scenarios to improve the preparation of their services and recruit further personnel. This plan would also see some administrative employees being send out into the field to cover for shortages.
