Emile Eicher, an MP and a member of the Clervaux municipal executive board, has confirmed that he will serve neither of his two mandates to term.

Eicher first announced this shortly after the 2023 legislative elections and has now reaffirmed it to RTL upon enquiry.

He declined to give the exact timing of his resignation from the Chamber of Deputies. Under the current succession order, Jeff Boonen already replaced Martine Hansen when she became a minister, and Jean-Paul Schaaf succeeded Christophe Hansen when he became a European Commissioner.

It would now be the turn of Myriam Binck-Schaack to take up Eicher’s seat for the Christian Social People’s Party (CSV). The mayor of Rambrouch placed seventh on the party’s list in the northern constituency in 2023.

Before leaving the Chamber, Eicher also plans to reduce his local workload. He has served on the Clervaux municipal executive board since the 2023 local elections and will hand over that role to Jules Clement in the summer. He will remain a municipal councillor, however, which is a condition for keeping his presidency of the Association of Luxembourg Towns and Communes (SYVICOL) – a role Eicher confirmed he will retain.

As mentioned, Eicher declined to comment on a specific timeline, saying the decision will be made in agreement with his party.
