RoadworksEnd in sight for Irrgarten roadworks, red bridge to be painted

RTL Today
The redevelopment of the large Irrgarten/Schaffner roundabout was due to be completed in December, but is as good as finished now.

Similar to the Kirchberg roundabout, the purpose of the consistent roadworks on the roundabout was to transform it into a so-called turbo roundabout. This includes the installation of traffic lights and separate lanes, allowing motorists to join the lane for their exit directly.

Over the course of the last year, motorists have had to show a high amount of patience as roadworks have seen parts of the roundabout closed over successive weekends. The traffic lights are already in operation, but are working provisionally as the authorities are still working on some areas earmarked for improvement.

Repainting the red bridge

A second large-scale construction programme, which was interrupted in the summer, is due to start again on Monday. The red bridge (Grand Duchess Charlotte bridge) will be repainted.

The delay to the works in July occurred after the business commissioned to do the painting went bankrupt. The authorities have found a new business to do the work and painting begins again on Monday - in red, of course.
