In a Thursday statement, the Fédération Aéronautique Luxembourgeoise (FAL) said that general aviation at Luxembourg Airport should not be treated as a secondary activity or merely as an addition to the airport's operations. The organisation argued that general aviation plays a vital role in the country's aviation sector and helps preserve aeronautical expertise in Luxembourg.

General aviation covers a broad range of activities, including sports flying, business aviation, flight training, private flights, and aviation club activities.

According to the FAL, this sector is crucial to pilot training and to preserving essential aviation skills in Luxembourg, which is vital for maintaining the country's broader aviation ecosystem.

At the same time, the federation acknowledged that clear rules and effective coordination between commercial and general aviation are necessary at Luxembourg Airport to ensure safe operations.

The debate over the future of aviation, it argued, should not pit commercial aviation against general aviation. Instead, the focus should be on maintaining a balanced and coherent aviation environment.

In this context, the future of the Noertrange airfield remains an important issue. Currently, the site is restricted to skydiving activities, with other aircraft not permitted to land there. The FAL has welcomed ongoing discussions with the government and the Ministry of Transport about the possibility of reintroducing broader use of the airfield.
