Philipp was confirmed for another four-year term at the federation's congress in Wincrange on Saturday. He has held the presidency since 2004 and has now stood in seven elections, four of them, including this year's, without a challenger. Former Etzella Ettelbruck president Tun Di Bari had considered running but decided not to submit his candidacy.

Asked whether he would have preferred a contested election, Philipp said the focus should be on Luxembourg football, not personal careers, and stressed the need for collaboration and deep knowledge of the organisation.

"This is not the place for making a career plan. We are not in politics. This is about Luxembourg football, which is much more than just holding an office. Managing it requires working closely with people, clubs and different groups. It is not simply a matter of handing out titles and getting to work straight away; it takes time to really get to know the organisation."

He would not say whether this will be his final term, saying his attention is on the tasks and challenges facing Luxembourg football in the months ahead.

Raising the standard of the league

One pressing challenge, Philipp said, is the relatively low standard of the national championship, shown by recent results of Luxembourg clubs in European competitions. He believes the priority should be investing more in youth training and development.

"Perhaps we need to look at increasing our efforts in youth development. These do not necessarily have to be Luxembourgish players. We have enough, and we are proud of our multiculturalism. But more investment in youth is still needed. These are always medium-term projects, yet football is an area where immediate results are expected. Nevertheless, investing in training and youth is the right path."

National team

Recent results have not always been positive, Philipp acknowledged, but he partly blamed several key players being injured at the same time. The squad now has more depth than in the past, he said, but it is still difficult to compensate when four important players are unavailable at once. He reaffirmed his confidence in Jeff Strasser, saying he is undoubtedly the right person to coach the national team.
