For more than 50 years, they have been a defining feature of the landscape in the municipality of Junglinster. On Friday at around 3pm, the longwave radio masts will be brought down.

Since 1972, the transmission facility in Beidweiler has been used to broadcast RTL's French-language radio programming to France via longwave radio.

The longwave transmitter was switched off three years ago, and on Friday afternoon, the 290-metre-high masts will finally be brought down.

At around 3pm, the steel cables holding the masts upright were severed using explosives. RTL livestreamed the demolition.
