The free advice is offered by myenergy, who have six experts touring the country to give residents tailored advice in their own home. The demand for this type of assistance has increased by 30-40 percent over the last five years. Many people have preconceptions about such renovations, for instance about mould developing. The 10 most frequent questions are answered on their site (in French and German).

There are government subsidies available for energy renovation, which are tied to a session with a certified energy advisor, who will analyse the house’s thermal envelope and make improvement suggestions for each building component. A detailed report shows the energy savings made with each modification, the price and the resulting energy class.

The subsidies are even higher if environmentally friendly materials are chosen during renovation. More details can be found on the website clever-primes.lu or the accompanying app.

A new subsidy programme will come into force in January, but the details are not yet known. It is expected that the subsidies will continue until at least 2025, however.
