The city of Luxembourg is covered in red-white-blue this weekend for the National Day celebrations.

Highlights of the evening ahead of National Day included the torchlight procession, fireworks, and the Grand Ducal family.

For two days straight, the National Day is celebrated on the streets of Luxembourg. The big highlight of the evening before National Day was the traditional torchlight procession. Around 9:30pm, members of sports organisations, scouts, firefighters, first-aid workers, music and singing groups walked down Avenue de la Gare. Thousands of people had gathered to watch the procession from the sides.

The royal couple and city council enjoyed the procession from the royal podium. The big bang was definitely the firework display shortly after 11pm.

The show of 17 minutes coloured the sky of Luxembourg in different colours, and was accompanied by live music from the military at the Golden Lady.

Following the official celebration, parties went on until the early morning hours. The festivities continue on Sunday.
