6,100 people tested positive, while the incidence rate dropped from 1,278 to 972. The greatest decreases were noted in the age groups of under 14-year-olds, as well as between 15-29, which can be linked to the holidays.

Last week, nine people died after having contracted Covid-19. Their average age was 84 years.

Experts from the Health Directorate estimate that the country has made it past the peak of Covid infections. Nevertheless, contact tracing remains an issue.

Last week, the team failed to contact all people in touch with an infected person, thus shifting focus on people above the age of 60, as well as those living in care homes. In each of those 2,527 cases, the team was able to identify the infection source.

On Tuesday, Minister of Family Affairs Corinne Cahen acknowledged that the virus is once again circulating in care homes, with 388 cases affecting 35 institutions at the moment.

In terms of infection sources, family circles remain the primary area, followed by leisure activities, travel, and education. In about a quarter of cases, no infection source was identifiable.

On Saturday, the vaccination centres in Belval and Ettelbruck are set to close, similar to the last pop-up centres. At the moment, very few people are opting for a jab, with only 1,339 doses having been administered over the course of last week. Out of those, 112 people got their first shot. The country’s vaccination rate for people above the age of five is now 78.6%.

More coronavirus vaccines are arriving in Luxembourg despite the decline in demand: 36,270 BioNTech/Pfizer doses are expected this week. Last week, a total of 42,270 doses arrived, including 6,000 units of Novavax.

In light of the closing vaccination centres, the Health Directorate is set to rely more on the mobile vaccination team. However, people now have to make an appointment to get their jab. Alternatively, people can continue visiting a pharmacy or their GP to get the shot.
