After the recent dog biting incident, representatives of the Luxembourg Socialist Workers’ Party (LSAP), the Left Party (Déi Lénk), and the Green Party (Déi Gréng) have sent a letter to Minister for Home Affairs Taina Bofferding, asking her to intervene with the municipal officials of the capital so that they immediately terminate the agreement with G4S.

The agreement is said to be unconstitutional and illegal, and the security company’s agents are said to be carrying out tasks that are not covered by the contract or the legal basis.

The local politicians also want to table a motion along the same lines at the next municipal council meeting, which will be held on Monday.

The three parties also state that they were shocked by statements made during an interview on RTL Radio by Luxembourg City Mayor Lydie Polfer, who said that residents of the Gare neighbourhood should say whether they want a security company or not. In their letter to the Minister, local councillors Tom Krieps, Guy Foetz, and Christa Brömmel wrote that they “assume” that Bofferding, as Minister for Home Affairs, will share their opinion that organising local referendums to violate national laws is “unacceptable behaviour on the part of a mayor”.
