In his traditional address, the head of government also briefly touched on the recent tripartite agreement. The country's challenges and concerns, he said, were being tackled together with the social partners, and the Luxembourg path is one of togetherness.
On this National Day, Frieden said, he hoped everyone would pull in the same direction, for a society in which everyone can play a part, a social model that leaves no one behind, an economy that thrives, innovates and creates jobs, a way of life that respects the limits of the planet, and a country that cooperates with its partners around the world.
Frieden said the country had a great deal to be proud of, and that National Day was a moment to share that pride. He spoke of being proud of what previous generations and the present one had built, proud of who Luxembourg is today, and proud of what it could and still wants to become. He also paid tribute to the new Grand Duke Guillaume, who, alongside Grand Duchess Stéphanie, had in his view exemplarily united the country at home and represented it abroad during the first months of his reign.
The world, he noted, is in turmoil, and many people are rightly worried. In a time of multiple international conflicts and lingering uncertainty, he said, it matters that the country can lean on the community at home and on Europe. Society itself has a choice, he argued, namely how it responds, whether with fear or with responsibility, with pessimism or with the will to move forward together. Because the Luxembourgish path is one of togetherness, he added, it is also a European one. In a world of uncertainty, Luxembourg must stand with its European partners, for its values, for its security and for its future. The future, he urged, is not a fate, but a choice, and the country, like the wider continent, writes its own future, as individuals, as a nation and as Europe.
Luxembourg is well prepared for what lies ahead, the Prime Minister said, voicing his confidence in the country's future. National Day, he added, is a good moment to reflect on what we share with all the people who call this country home.
