Other parts of Europe also affectedLuxembourg facing ice cube shortage

After sunflower oil and mustard, there is now a shortage of ice cubes in Luxembourg and Europe, as the high demand exceeds the producers' supply.

During the summer months, ice cubes are one of the highlights of sun kissed terraces across the continent. However, the successive heat waves have led to a shortage of this summer staple. A shortage that is affecting the whole of Europe.

Ice cubes are becoming scarce and professionals in the sector are worried, as illustrated by a recent report on the French TV station France 3 Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. However, the Grand Duchy is also starting to feel the effects of the ice cube shortage, according to the newspaper Tageblatt.

The organisers of the Luxembourg Beach Open (LBO) in Esch-sur-Alzette, the largest volleyball tournament in the Greater Region, need 400 kilos of ice cubes for the three-day event. But in Luxembourg, it is currently impossible to obtain ice cubes in large quantities.

The organisers have therefore been forced to buy from multiple different suppliers to have enough stock. The demand far exceeds the supply of the producers, who can no longer keep up.

This week again, temperatures will exceed 30 degrees in Luxembourg. It is unlikely that the ice cube shortage will get better any time soon.
