Smaller in scale than many international fashion events, Luxembourg Fashion Week offers something they often don’t: a platform for emerging designers to showcase their work.
Luxembourg-born, Berlin-based Noémie Kugener launched her brand NOEMS from her Berlin atelier. The young designer, who previously interned with German label Haderlump, presented a series of garments highlighting her fabric manipulation skills and mixed-fabric approach, alongside knitted pieces. Her deconstructed designs left guests wanting more.
“For me, this is my first step here in Luxembourg”, said Kugener, who has until now worked only in Berlin. Above all, fashion means “freedom: who you can be. You can allow yourself anything.”
The event also draws talent from across the borders of the Greater Region. Metz- and Paris-based Minh Nguyen presented the graduation collection of her brand Minh NGNs, first shown at Atelier Chardon Savard, a Paris fashion school. The collection is inspired by her childhood, her love of manga and costume history. For Nguyen, Luxembourg Fashion Week is not only a place to show her creations but to reconnect with peers. She calls it “a melting pot of creativity.”
For newcomers, the small stage can mean a lot. “For me, it really represents a great opportunity”, said Liège-based Kani Doumbouya, whose brand ManiKani showed clean-cut looks with simple silhouettes, set off by avant-garde knit pieces. "Since I’ve only been a designer for a short time, it’s just incredible to be here."
With this year’s edition, Luxembourg Fashion Week showed its potential, giving the stage to a young and ambitious new generation alongside more established designers and creators.
