Previously, the Luxembourg Reception and Integration Agency (OLAI) fell under the remit of the Ministry of Family Affairs and Integration. The coalition agreement of the 2018-2023 government stipulated that the agency would be transferred to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Now, following the law of 4 December 2019 which created the ONA, the reception of asylum seekers will fall under the remit of Jean Asselborn, Minister of Immigration. The law entered effect on 1 January 2020, confirming the move from the OLAI to ONA. The ONA is now attached to the general secretariat of the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs.
The coalition agreement also highlighted the importance of integration at the heart of the government's policies. A department of integration has consequently been created within the Ministry of Family Affairs, Integration, and the Greater Region, under the authority of Minister Corinne Cahen. The department will promote living together in Luxembourg.
