This places us second to only Slovenia, at 16.9%, and in shared second with Lithuania. Two of our neighbours are close behind - French residents spend 14.1%, and Germans 13.8%.

Belgians on the other hand spend quite a bit less, and come in 5th from last at 11.4% - leaving them with a bigger share of their disposable income for other expenses (or saving, which is never a bad idea).

The share that Luxembourgers spend on transport has remained relatively stable. Eurostat's data dates back to 1995, at which point it stood at 15.4%. Looking back over the last decade, the figure has varied from a low of 14.1% (2016) to a high of 17.5% (2011).
