More than 180 nations competed in the 2022 edition of the FIRST Global Challenge on robotics, which is organised in a different country each year and took place in the Swiss city of Geneva this time.

The collaborative competition brings together future leaders in STEM: science, technology, engineering and mathematics. According to the organisation, its aim is “to find solutions to the world’s biggest challenges.”

This year, teams were provided with a standard robotic parts kit to build a robot capable of capturing carbon. The challenge incorporated “educational components that model the science of carbon capture and storage processes”, says the organisation.

The Luxembourgish team, which came 67th in its best-ever performance, was made up of “five young talents, aged 15 to 18", noted a statement from the association Make It, which helped prepare the delegation in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Children and Youth.
