EmploymentLuxembourg's unemployment rate falls by 8.7%

According to STATEC's latest examination of unemployment figures, the number of job seekers compared to January 2018 has dropped by 8.7%.

By the end of January 2019, 15,157 individuals were registered as job seekers. This marks a (statistically) negative development, as the number of those unemployed is 1,442 fewer than last year.

Continuing the trend of previous months, those who have benefited the most from the fall in unemployment are job seekers under the age of 30: the unemployment rate amongst this demographic has fallen by 15%. As for long-term unemployment, there has been a decrease of 6%.

There has also been a 6% decrease amongst the number of employees with disabled status. 4,238 individuals are registered in employability measures, marking a 2.1% increase compared to the previous years. A more significant increase of 8.9% has been noted amongst special employability measures, alongside a 7.5% increase in registrations to the National Employment Agency's (ADEM) training courses.
Businesses signalled 3,500 available jobs in January, which is 12% less than January 2018.
