Major League Soccer’s final game was an encounter between the Portland Timbers and New York City FC. Latter team managed to get the first breakthrough with a goal by Castellanos in minute 41. However, Portland equalised in the fourth minute of added time, which is why the game eventually went over to penalties.

In the end, the players from New York had the better nerves and managed to decide the penalty shootout 4:2. Luxembourgish international Maxime Chanot played the entire game and was happy to bring home his first-ever MLS title.

Germany

In the German Bundesliga, Leandro Barreiro suffered a 1:2 defeat against Bayern Munich. The Luxembourgish international was in Mainz’ starting line-up, but got substituted in minute 82. Mainz 05 thus remains eighth in the table at the moment.

1. FC Saarbrucken continued its winning run with a 1:0 victory over SC Freiburg II. Maurice Deville initially sat on the bench for Saarbrucken, but was brought on in the 73rd minute of the game.

For the first time in his career, Mathias Olesen was selected in the first time of 1. FC Cologne. However, the Luxembourgish player sat on the bench throughout the entire 0:2 defeat to Augsburg.

Eastern Europe

In the first Moldovan football league, Sébastien Thill and Sheriff Tiraspol won 4:0 against Zimbru Chisinau. Former team thus maintains its grip on the top spot in the table, that despite having played two fewer games than the current league seconds. Thill scored the 2:0 via penalty in minute 35, received a yellow booking in minute 53, and was finally substituted in minute 76.

Worskla Poltawa drew 1:1 against FC Lviv in the first Ukrainian football league. Oli Thill played the full 90 minutes of the game, but his brother Vincent was still left out of the team. Enes Mahmutovic missed Lviv’s game after being sent-off in their previous match.

Elsewhere

In the Dutch Eredivisie, the game between Sparta Rotterdam and SC Heerenveen ended in a goalless draw. Luxembourgish footballer Mica Pinto was in the starting line-up, while Laurent Jans came off after 73 minutes.

In Cyprus, Tim Hall’s Achnas continue their fight against relegation. Despite still being in the final spot of the table, the team managed a 2:0 win over direct opponents PAEEK.

In the English Championship, Huddersfield drew 1:1 with Coventry City. Luxembourgish forward Danel Sinani missed the game.
