A minor was arrested in Goetzingen on Thursday afternoon on suspicion of involvement in a series of burglaries. Police were alerted by a witness who reported seeing two suspicious youths in the area. When officers arrived, the pair attempted to flee, prompting a chase of around one kilometre. Police managed to apprehend one of the suspects.

During the search, officers discovered jewellery and cash on the youth, believed to have been stolen during a break-in at a nearby house. Investigators subsequently became aware of a second burglary in the same neighbourhood, with the youth again suspected of involvement.

There has been confusion over the suspect's exact age. He initially told police he was 12 years old, later providing different identification and claiming to be 15. Following checks and medical examinations, authorities estimate his age to be around 17. A car with French licence plates was also seized as part of the investigation.

Due to all spaces at the youth detention centre (Unisec) being occupied, the minor was transferred to Schrassig prison, where strict measures are in place to separate him from adult prisoners. The investigation is ongoing.

The public prosecutor's office has called for increased vigilance, noting that the darker months of the year traditionally see a spike in burglaries. Authorities urge anyone noticing suspicious behaviour in their neighbourhood to contact the police immediately.
