Mietschutz ASBLMore support needed for tenants during Covid crisis

RTL Today
The tenant protection society Mietschutz ASBL said more and more people, particularly low-income families, had been evicted over recent months.

The association has appealed to the government to introduce measures to prevent tenant evictions during the coronavirus crisis.

According to a statement, the majority of evictions affected low-income families, who struggle to find available housing on the market. The association said the government should show solidarity towards those in need of support.

In the statement, Mietschutz ASBL said the government should ban all forms of evictions during the pandemic, as well as introducing urgent financial aid for households unable to pay rent. There should also be fines for landlords who raise rents before 31 December. The ASBL also requested that the government source additional emergency housing to prevent families from becoming homeless.

A petition has been launched in support of the above.
