The capital's mayor, Lydie Polfer, stated that the city would not organise a firework display in 2020, adding that people would have to celebrate differently this year.

Polfer also reminded the public that anyone wishing to organise fireworks in the capital was required to obtain permission first and that the curfew would still be in effect on 31 December.

Municipal representatives were well aware that some people would still use their own firecrackers, Polfer explained and stated that all they could to was strongly advise against it. Every year, numerous people injure themselves while handling firecrackers.

The fireworks that are traditionally launched from Pont Adolphe will thus not take place on 31 December due to circumstances linked to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
