Between Saturday evening and Sunday morning, police were called out 75 times over excessive noise, fights and arguments. In most cases, the situation had already calmed down by the time officers arrived, or the matter could be sorted out on the spot.
There were, however, a few exceptions.
An individual admitted to the Hospital Center Emile Mayrisch (CHEM) in Esch-sur-Alzette on Saturday evening began causing a disturbance and continued acting aggressively even after police arrived. As a result, the person was placed in a holding cell to sober up and to ensure they did not harm anyone.
Around midnight on Sunday, officers were called out to a café in Pétange following a fight. According to initial findings, two groups totalling seven people had clashed with one another. A bottle was thrown during the altercation, injuring several bystanders, including the café owner. The seven suspects had already fled the scene in two cars by the time police arrived, and could not be identified that same evening, though an investigation has been opened.
At around 8am on Sunday, police had to deal with an intoxicated individual who was lying on the tram tracks in Luxembourg City and refused to move. That person also spent the next few hours in custody.
At around 9pm on Friday evening, officers spotted a heavily intoxicated man near Place de la Gare in Luxembourg City. He had shortly beforehand caused damage to the barriers at a construction site.
Since the man was disturbing public order and, given his condition, posed a danger to himself and to others, he was taken into temporary custody following a medical check.
Shortly afterwards, police received a report of a fight between two individuals, also close to the Gare district. By the time officers arrived on the scene, the situation had already calmed down.
One of the men involved, however, was heavily intoxicated and uncooperative with officers. He, too, was taken into custody after being examined by a doctor.
A rather more unusual incident took place overnight into Saturday on Rue du Brill in Esch-sur-Alzette. Police were called after a heavily intoxicated and disoriented individual made his way into a shop.
The man was uncooperative with officers and, following a medical check, was also placed in temporary custody.
An official report has been filed in all three cases.
