Ministry of Education criticisedOGBL: homeschooling exacerbates inequality

RTL Today
The Independent Luxembourg Trade Union Confederation criticised the "homeschooling programme", which is to last until the Easter holidays, for intensifying preexisting inequalities.

Despite the fact that the Ministry of Education put a system in place that would relay the classes and information necessary on to parents, the plan suffered a number of shortcomings, and there definitely was no talk of a "positive" impact.

The Ministry of Education needed to become aware of the fact that parents were not trained teachers, and were unable to fully recreate the scholastic framework, said the union. It would be better not to roll out too much work.

In addition to this, the union pointed out that not all households could meet demands in terms of languages or digital knowledge/access.

The OGBL appealed to the Ministry of Education to minimise as best they could, the effects of preexisting inequalities, which meant assisting children from disadvantaged backgrounds, as they risked being hit hardest by the current crisis.
