In the last ten years, 90 agricultural enterprises have switched from conventional to organic farming. This figure drops to 30 farms if one only wanted to consider farms in the strict sense, i.e. excluding market gardeners for example.
Last year about 470 hectares were converted to organic farming and this year an almost identical area of 460 hectares has gone organic.
A number of farmers and market gardeners waited until the new grants were fixed before converting their businesses.
Considering the overall agrarian surface area of Luxembourg, the rate of organic farming remains minimal with barely 5% of the land.
