As in 2020, the CNPD advised the government on the Covid-19 draft laws, CNPD President Tine Larsen explained to our colleagues from RTL Télé, including the information system set up by the Ministry of Health.

The CNPD wrote an opinion on the type of data that was to be collected and who would have access to the information. The CNPD also advised the government regarding the contact tracing and the CovidCheck app.

In addition, residents also had “numerous questions and complaints, for instance in relation to work in times of pandemic,” Larsen explained. This included “those working from home who had issues because their computers were being monitored, or at the workplace where people were asked for their vaccination certificates, had their temperature checked, or where it was written down when they were where with whom.”

Home schooling and digital learning in schools and universities also raised “new challenges and issues,” which the CNPD tried to address.

In terms of the future, Larsen emphasised that the CNPD will face numerous new challenges as novel technologies emerge, such as artificial intelligence, blockchain, and face recognition.
