The heavy rainfall has already caused several roads to be closed off and triggered a landslide between Lintgen and Stuppicht.
On Monday, Meteolux initially expected between 30 to 45 l/m2 in some places. In an update on Tuesday morning, the national weather service then stated that between five and ten l/m2 of rain could come down between 9am and 3pm.
The water levels of several streams and rivers already started rising on Monday evening. Over the course of the day, the Alzette could for instance potentially reach its pre-alert level of 1.8 metres in Ettelbruck, we it normally stands at 0.5 metres. The Water Management Authority issued a pre-emptive flood warning on Tuesday morning for the Sûre, Alzette, Chiers, and Syre. Water levels of these rivers were expected to reach their peaks around midday and should then slowly decrease again as there will be less rain over the afternoon.
A pre-emptive orange alert was also issued due to the risk of flooding.
The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) informed its intervention centres of the pre-emptive warning issued by the Water Management Authority. As of midday on Tuesday, the emergency services only had to intervene seven times due to flooding. They will stay on alert for the time being.
People living close to rivers are advised to inform themselves about the situation on inondations.lu. If they think they might be affected by rising water levels, they should take adequate measures, which can be found on infocrise.lu.
Meanwhile, the municipality of Ettelbruck has called on locals to remove their cars from both the ‘Deich’ parking space as well as Level -1 of the ‘Am Däich’ car park. Vehicles can still be safely stationed on levels 0 to 3, according to the municipality.

Private weather service Kachelmannwetter also forecasts a substantial drop in temperatures between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning. Places located at altitude levels between 300 and 400 metres can potentially expect snowfall. It will get dryer over the course of Wednesday morning.
Motorists are advised to remain cautious, as temperatures between 0 and -2 degrees carry a risk of black ice.
