National DayPicture bonanza - Military parade in and over Kirchberg

RTL Today
Today marked a historic moment as it was the first time that Luxembourg's traditional National Day military parade did not take place on Avenue de la Liberté.

The ongoing tram roadworks had forced organisers of the event to select an alternative location for the parade to unfold.

The National Day military parade started in full swing at noon. For the first time, it did not take place on Avenue de la Liberté but on Avenue JF Kennedy in Kirchberg.

On of the highlights of this year's parade was the "fly over" of three military aircrafts. Luxembourg's national anthem "Ons Heemecht" was also played by military musician Stéphanie Schlinck.

The parade itself included 200 soldiers, 140 policemen, 60 vehicles and around 180 people from CGDIS.

The third edition of the "Arméifest" kicked off at 1.30pm on Place de l'Europe, also in Kirchberg. Members off the public were able to indulge in free beer and snacks, and admire various military vehicles and equipment.

A rehearsal parade had already taken place last Tuesday.
