Prison radicalisationPrison guards responsible for detecting radicalisation

RTL Today
LSAP MP Dan Biancalana queried the Minister of Justice on the topic of radicalisation in prisons on Tuesday.

Felix Braz, the Minister of Justice, stressed that the topic of radicalisation in prison is one that Luxembourg has taken seriously over the past few years.

Biancalana's question concerned the role of prison guards in detecting radicalisation. Braz responded that detecting radicalisation is indeed the responsibility of prison guards, who have already received training on the matter.

Braz explained that the authorities began regular training sessions in 2016, offered by external experts.

Prison guards could refer back to regular training sessions in order to determine whether inmates were acting inconspicuously or were beginning to show signs of radicalisation.

Whilst Braz admitted that the phenomenon does exist in Luxembourg prisons, it is not quite on the scale seen in neighbouring countries, notably Belgium.

The Justice Minster concluded that the authorities must remain vigilant in order to keep the issue under control.
