Luxembourg CityPrivate security guards not a solution to the problem, says Héloïse Bock

RTL Today
The Luxembourg City councilwoman spoke to our colleagues from RTL Radio on Monday morning.

The DP politician believes the police presence should be reinforced in the Gare quarter, and supports investing in social infrastructure as a preventive method against crime.

Her comments came in light of the recent debates around the hiring of a private security firm in the capital. She underlined: "They are in no way a solution to the problem, neither can they be considered a replacement for the police."

Although feedback from locals and business owners has been positive thus far, Bock argued that it should remain a temporary solution in the process of creating safer streets.

She noted that past investments into the police force had not been substantial enough and that additional security cameras may be of help.

Bock also spoke about social institutions that help drug addicts in the city quarter. "Unfortunately, many people do not like them and think that they incite or support usage", the councilwoman explained.
