Ever since 22-year-old Mahsa Amini died under suspicious circumstances while in custody of Iran’s morality police for not wearing her hijab correctly in mid September, the Islamic Republic of Iran has experienced unprecedented and ongoing protests with thousands of people taking to the streets every single day.
According to organisation Iran Human Rights, at least 122 people died as a consequence of clashes between protesters and authorities.
Since foreign ministers from across the European Union gathered in Kirchberg on Monday to discuss new sanctions against the Iranian regime, activists made use of the opportunity to organise a solidarity protest for the people of Iran.
The National Council of Iranian Resistance (CNRI), which organised the protest, emphasised that “the regime represses protestors by using lethal ammunition and by blocking access to and reducing the speed of internet in the country.”
According to the CNRI, 20,000 people have been imprisoned and no fewer than 400 protestors killed in Iran since mid September.
