Around 15 women came to the protest in Luxembourg City. The organisation drew attention to the fact that many women still feel unsafe when returning home alone late at night. Protestors thus talked about the different strategies that women regularly have to employ to discourage potential attackers, like pretending to be on the phone, or having keys ready as if one were close to home.
It should not be normal to be scared on your way home, protestors further underlined on Sunday evening. Luxembourg City councilwoman Ana Correia da Veiga, who also joined the protest, explained that changes in the urban landscape can help increase safety levels. For instance, the hedges separating the municipal park from the street could be removed to brighten up one section of the park.
Aside from the danger for women, protestors also drew attention to the threats that men can encounter. According to statistics, men are more likely to be attacked, while women are more likely to become the victim of sexually-driven assaults.
