Covid-19 Task ForceRenewed efforts needed to break wave of infections

Although the rapid growth among new infections has slowed somewhat and the R rate has reduced slightly, the task force still urged caution as Luxembourg experienced exponential increases in infections.

In the last report, dated Friday, the national Covid-19 task force described a light reduction in the number of new infections, but nevertheless urged caution as the number of cases was still at an extraordinarily high level, pointing to exponential spread of the virus.

Further social efforts are needed to mitigate the current epidemic wave, according to the report.

The group of 10 experts also modified their predictions for November, forecasting around 1,300 new cases per day by mid-November, based on last week's figures. However, their prediction does take cross-border workers into account, while figures published by the Ministry of Health only focus on residents.

The task force pointed out that "the model does not take into account possible societal behaviour changes in the future. It should be our common goal to try to not reach those forecasted numbers. Societal behaviour can change the curve in one or the other direction."
