Since Wednesday, the "Ratelach" in Esch has been able to a welcome guests on its terrace anew, although only drinks could be served. Owner Thomas Dos Santos explains how he and his team have adjusted to the new situation:
"We created a waiting space at the front from where we guide our clients to their respective seats. We will not be able to make up for the losses of the past months, but we can at least give people back a piece of their former lives."
Fortunately, the café is located next to the "Kulturfabrik", making it more accessible to the public. Worries remain, however, that numbers will drop again as soon as the weather turns bad:
"I hope that our guests feel safe enough to also enjoy the inside of our establishment. After all, we have made a series of adjustments to guarantee safety distances."
Similar reports come from "Café Why Not" in Dudelange. Ben Frings notes the importance of having a terrace in current times:
"People feel a little safer as long as they are out breathing fresh air. We only had to serve two tables inside, but with such good weather, that is only normal. Nonetheless, with all safety precautions that we have to take at the moment, we will continue to register losses on days where the terrace cannot be open."
