In Luxembourg:

• Confirmed cases of coronavirus rose by 226 to 1,831, as the number of deaths increased to 18.

• A historic sum of money - almost €9 billion - is to be injected into the economy to save it from the coronavirus crisis, according to Minister of Finance Pierre Gramegna.

• Prime Minister Xavier Bettel confirmed that one of the deaths from coronavirus in Luxembourg was a French patientrecently transferred from Mulhouse.

• Police in Luxembourg carried out more than a thousand checks to enforce the government's measures over the past week, handing out 200 fines and warnings.

• Recent mothers were advised to spend as least time as possible in maternity wards.

• The Minister of Housing Henri Kox confirmed that evictions from rented property would be suspended for the duration of the crisis, while the government also announced that travel agencies would reimburse customers for cancellations after the crisis.

• Italy warned that it needed urgent financial help from the European Union, as the Mediterranean nation recorded almost 1,000 deaths on Friday alone - although a 101-year-old born during the Spanish flu pandemic has reportedly recovered from the virus.
  

• A 70-year-old Sikh guru has emerged as a super-spreader of the coronavirus in India's Punjab state, infecting up to 15,000 people.

• The death toll in Iran topped 2,500 as the USArefused to lift sanctions on the country.

• Concerns rose about a surge in domestic violence during lockdowns in Europe, as police warned of new tactics by so-called 'Corona criminals'.

• The Chinese city of Wuhan, where the first cases of coronavirus were reported in December, has partially re-opened after months of total lockdown.
